The museum does not have one continuous shape, but rather consists of a number of linked building components. Large, open spaces, followed by small, closed ones create dramatic transitions. The imagery of the whole design concept bears comparison with a ship.
The Arken museum is an example of architecture that is full of contrasts. The exterior of the building is derived directly from the surrounding nature. For the interior, by contrast, oblique angles meet high ceilings, metal stairways and smooth walls.
